A fluteful of resources
Aug 2, 2025
A collection of my favorite Native American-style flute makers, teachers, and learning resources.
When shopping for a flute, keep in mind that shorter flutes (G, A, B, and C5) have a higher pitch and are generally more comfortable for players with smaller hands. Longer flutes (B, C4, D, and E) produce a deeper, lower tone but require a longer reach..
Native American-style flutes are made from many different woods, though Eastern Red Cedar is one of the most common. It's lightweight, naturally water resistant, pleasantly aromatic, and known for its warm, mellow tone.
